Electronic Dissertations

Introduction

An electronic version in PDF format of the complete doctoral dissertation including the abstract is required at the time of depositing; paper copies of the dissertation are no longer required. However, at this time, electronic versions of master's theses are not required by the Graduate Studies Office.

General Information

An Electronic Thesis or Dissertation (ETD) is a thesis or dissertation document that is expressed in a form simultaneously suitable for machine archives and worldwide retrieval.

Preparation of the ETD may be done using nearly any word processor or document preparation system, incorporating relevant multimedia objects, without the requirement to submit multiple copies on 25% cotton bond paper. While they can be made available to anyone that can browse the Web, at UNL they are only available to the campus community.

In many ways the submission of an electronic dissertation is the same as submission of a "hard copy" dissertation. It is important that the Doctoral Programs Specialist preview your title page and abstract as they must be in appropriate form for University Microfilms International. However, review of the format of the electronic file by the Doctoral Programs Specialist is not necessary.
