Individual Consultation on Teaching
Consultants are available to meet with graduate students who have an interest in teaching. We can provide the information, resources and support you need to meet your teaching goals and to enjoy and learn as much as you can from your experience in the classroom.
Classroom Observation
One way to document your teaching is to ask a peer, a faculty member or an instructional consultant to observe your class. After meeting with you to determine your specific questions or the focus of the observation, the observer visits your class and then reviews the information he or she gathered. To schedule a classroom observation, contact .
Videotaping Your Teaching
Watching oneself teach is an excellent way to assess teaching behaviors and classroom interaction. We can arrange the videotaping of classes for feedback on presentation and teaching skills. These tapes are viewed in a private and a follow up consultation with a teaching consultant. The tapes and subsequent consultations are strictly confidential.
Reasons why you might consider being videotaped:
- to assess presentation strengths and weaknesses
- to look at questioning strategies and student responses
- to see the balance of lecture and interaction
- to experience the class or training from your students' perspective
When you meet with the teaching consultant to view your videotape, be sure to bring a blank VHS tape if you want us to make a copy for you.
