Instructional Development for Graduate Students

Graduate Teaching Assistants contribute to undergraduate education at UNL in almost every department of the university. GTAs might serve as tutors, recitation leaders, lab assistants, or they might have full responsibility for a class section. Whatever their role, whatever their responsibilities, GTAs are the professors of tomorrow. The Office of Graduate Studies strongly supports the belief that "graduate students should enter the professoriate as competent professionals who have already begun a process of growth as scholars, teachers, and members of an academic community" (Ellen Wert, The Pew Charitable Trusts, 1996).

To help graduate teaching assistants develop as teachers and scholars, the Office of Graduate Studies offers various programs and services, including the following:

Teaching Documentation Program
The Teaching Documentation Program (TDP) helps graduate students teach better, now and in the future, and prepares them for the job search process by helping them document their teaching development efforts.

TA Resource Room
The Office of Graduate Studies maintains a library of books, selected publications, videos, periodicals, and subject files on college teaching, student learning, and professional development topics for use by UNL graduate students, post-doc fellows, and faculty.
