Preparing to Come to Nebraska

As you prepare for your trip to Nebraska, you are probably asking yourself many questions. What should I bring? What's the weather like? Where will I live? How much money will I need? Will I need a car or bicycle? How will I make new friends? What if I feel homesick?

We want to help you answer those questions so that you can feel confident and well-prepared and have a more relaxed and enjoyable trip. UNL's International Affairs offers information and advice for new international students. Here are two of their most useful pages:

  • Welcome page: Recommendations and suggestions about immediate concerns such as arrival in Lincoln, initial expenses, and health care.
  • Hello Handbook: Many pages of advice on housing, transportation, money management, culture, immigration rules, personal safety, and much more.

You can learn all about finding a place to live—dorms, apartments, rental agreements, utilities, and more—on our Relocating to Lincoln page.

International Student Arrival Report

To help us prepare for your arrival, we ask that you submit an Arrival Report once you finalize your travel itineraries.

(Don't worry if the form says "undergraduate" at the top — the form is hosted by Undergraduate Admissions for international students at all levels.)

Optionally, you can use this form to request a free pick-up from the Lincoln airport. You must submit a pick-up request at least 5 days prior to your arrival. Please notice the pick-up service is available from the Lincoln airport only.
