Getting Around Lincoln
Cars
Motor vehicles must be licensed and insured. Vehicle registration fees are collected annually, and are based on the value of the vehicle. (The more the vehicle is worth, the higher the fees will be.) Proof of insurance is required to register a vehicle and to operate it legally. Don't drive without insurance in Nebraska--penalties are high, especially if you are involved in a traffic accident.
There is no free parking on either of UNL's campuses. If you drive to campus, you must register your car and pay to park. Downtown garages offer hourly and daily rates.
Buses
City-owned buses cost $1.25 per ride and run Monday through Saturday, from about 5:30 or 6:00 am to about 6:00 pm. (Start and end times vary depending on the route.) UNL students may get a free bus pass to use with their student ID to ride buses.
Walking and Biking
Trails are for bicycling and walking. Motorized vehicles are not allowed on trails. Scooters and skateboards are allowed.
