Application Materials

Departmental Requirements

Each department has its own unique evaluation process, and most departments require a few additional items to supplement the basic materials required by Graduate Admissions. These additional requirements are different for each department. To find out what items are required by your department, check its summary page on our degrees and majors list.

Most departments require GRE or GMAT scores. Contact the testing agency to have your official scores sent directly to UNL. UNL's institution code for score reporting is 6877. To find a GRE department code, consult your test registration booklet or download the list from ETS (PDF).

Most departments also ask for three letters of recommendation. Recommenders may use their own letterhead paper, or they may use this recommendation form (PDF).

Some departments require various other materials such as departmental applications, statements of purpose, portfolios, or writing samples.

These departmental materials are not tracked or evaluated by the Graduate Admissions office.

Your department is the best source of information about how, when, and where to send application materials. If your department's instructions differ from those stated here, please work with them, making certain that Graduate Admissions receives required documents simultaneously. For fastest processing, apply online and send all supporting materials together in the same envelope.
