Application Materials

Academic Transcripts

What to submit:

  1. Two official transcripts from each college-level institution attended, listing courses completed and marks earned. (One transcript stays in Graduate Studies; the other goes to your department.)
    • If seeking non-degree admission: Send one official transcript instead of two.
    • Former UNL graduate or undergraduate students: You do not need to submit transcripts for prior UNL coursework; Graduate Admissions will obtain any UNL records already on file.

  2. If transcripts are from a school outside the U.S.: Certified copies of yearly marks, plus diplomas or degree certificates showing the name of each degree and the date of conferral. Students with Bologna-compliant degrees should include the Diploma Supplement.

  3. If transcripts or diplomas issued by a school are not in English: Certified English translations of all pages. Translations should be word-for-word and in the same layout as the original documents. English translations do not replace transcripts issued in other languages. Both English and original-language transcripts must be submitted to Graduate Admissions.

Transcripts, diplomas, and certificates will be accepted only if they have been certified by appropriate university officials. Photocopies of certified documents are not considered official. Faxed documents, scanned documents, notarized photocopies, and copies made by translators or evaluation agencies are not considered official.

Degrees in progress

Students working on another degree program at the time of application to UNL should submit transcripts from the current degree program, even though the transcripts will not yet be final. After the degree has been awarded, we will require final transcripts.

Transfers

All applicants planning to transfer to UNL without completing their current degree program at another school must also submit transcripts from the current program.

Important: International applicants should notify Graduate Admissions if they are currently attending another U.S. school or have recently attended another U.S. school. Upon admission to UNL, these students will need to ask the previous U.S. school to "release" them to UNL, in order to complete the transfer and receive a new I-20 or DS-2019 form from UNL. Graduate Admissions will provide more specific instructions at the time of admission.
