Campus Visit Tips
Here are some strategies for a successful campus visit. In order to help you get the most out of your time at Nebraska, be sure to schedule your visit two weeks in advance so that your requests can be accommodated.
- The best opportunity to learn about the campus and your department is to visit during the work week while classes are in session.
- Consult the academic calendar for student holidays, as faculty may be also away from campus and taking a break.
- It's also best to avoid finals week.
- In addition, faculty may be conducting research at off-campus sites during the summer, so be sure to check early with the department before planning a visit during the summer months.
- Some academic departments reserve visits for applicants or admitted students only. Contact your academic department to inquire. Visits in the Office of Graduate Studies though are for all students.
- Plan to spend quality time exploring the university and the surrounding community so you don't miss anything important or feel rushed.
- Dress appropriately for the weather and wear comfortable shoes, as the tour of campus will be a walking tour. You may want to watch the local news or check online for a weather forecast.
- Be prepared to ask questions! The best way for you to get all of the answers you're looking for is to ask questions!
- Make sure you have directions to campus and phone numbers to your department contacts before you leave home and plan to arrive on campus a little early.
