Balance

Nebraska faculty and staff support your many roles and responsibilities and encourage a well-balanced academic career and healthy living.

Making friends and creating a social network is made easier with multiple graduate student associations and opportunities to give back through community service. Stay motivated with dissertation support groups offered by the University Health Center and find support with raising children at the student parent support group offered by the Women's Center.

Take advantage of activities at the Campus Recreation Center where students participate in fitness classes, organized outdoor activities and affordable services such as massages and personal training sessions. The intramurals program and Recreation and Leisure Classes blend physical health with social interaction.

Stay on track with academic goals even while away from campus by accessing the libraries' databases. Study solo or plan a study group with classmates at one of the many coffee houses throughout the city which offer wireless internet access.

Find serenity on one of Lincoln's many bike trails, gardens, and nature centers. Farmers' markets, art expos, and wine tasting in the Historic Haymarket provide a break from the day-to-day routine. On any night escape by attending local entertainment or trying a new cuisine at one of the many ethnic restaurants in and around the city.

Restore yourself spiritually and connect with those who share your spiritual beliefs at a local place of worship. Take time and find a spot on campus to sit outside and read or reflect on the day. Join a local book club, volleyball league, or choir.

At Nebraska, we understand commitments extend beyond the classroom and we offer support, activities, and outlets — what you need to achieve balance and a well-rounded academic experience.
