Description

History on the Rocks is a geology field course that focuses on interpreting sedimentary rocks, the major archive of Earth history.

This course will begin and end on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus. The rest of the time will be spent camping in the field and examining world-class geologic sites exposed in eastern Nebraska, including Ashfall Fossil Beds State Historical Park. During the time in the field you will learn to interpret sedimentary rocks, learn about the geologic history of Nebraska, develop lesson plans, and collect samples that you can use in your classroom in the upcoming year.

  • Prerequisite: Basic geology background equivalent to an introductory Earth science course.

    • Primary: Science teachers who teach Earth sciences at the high school level.
    • Secondary: Science teachers with an Earth sciences or similar endorsement.
