GSA Travel Awards Program (GTAP)

The GTAP facilitates and promotes the intellectual and professional development of graduate students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and contributes to the strengthening of the University and its increased prominence in the greater scholarly community.

Who’s Eligible?

Undergrad and graduate students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln who are presenting original work at an academic conference, or who are attending an artistic competition/showcase or workshop, are eligible to apply for a GTAP grant. Students must be in good academic standing; the student’s adviser is required to sign off on the application. 

 GTAP Application

The application for the GSA Travel Awards Program can be accessed on NUramp at least 60 days prior to the application deadline.

  • Login using your Canvas username and password.
  • From among Open Internal Competitions, select GSA Travel Awards Program Application.
  • Answer the questions about your project and your conference, and upload your short essay. For guidance, applicants may consult the sample application that contains a commentary from the reviewer's perspective. 
  • When you have finished yoru application, NUGrant will send a notification to your academic adviser. THEY must approve your application before it will be considered. The GTAP team does NOT monitor this step, so it is up to you to ensure that your adviser has approved the application by the deadline, below.

GTAP Peer Reviewer Application

Applications are blindly reviewed by peer and faculty reviewers, who serve as volunteers. Graduate students may apply to serve as peer reviewers for the GTAP. The reviewer application should be submitted at least one week prior to the GTAP application deadline.

GTAP Reimbursement

GTAP funds cannot be distributed prior to conference travel. Students who are awarded a GTAP grant must submit detailed (itemized) travel-related receipts. An EMPLOYEE EXPENSE VOUCHER must be filled out and submitted no later than thirty (30) calendar days from the last day of travel (Cost object: ASUN Graduate Travel Awards Program) to the ASUN Office located in the Nebraska Union. Students are able to received $600 for Domestic Travel (travel within the United States) and $800 for International Travel (travel outside of the United States). Further instructions will be provided to awardees.
