Internship Application and Interview Procedure

Application Procedures

Application materials are sent to the NICPP and must be received by November 1, 2007. NICPP information is available at the NICPP Web site. CAPS agrees to abide by the APPIC policy that no person at this training facility will solicit, accept or use any ranking-related information from any intern applicant.

A complete application file contains:
  1. The APPIC Application for Psychology Internship completed in full.
  2. Applicant Information Form
  3. Personal vitae.
  4. Official graduate school transcripts.
  5. Three letters of recommendation. One letter should be from your director of training.
Applicants must submit 1 original (for NICPP) and one copy (for CAPS). Only the original copies of the letters of recommendation and graduate transcripts are required. Do not send undergraduate transcripts.

Please see the NICPP Site for further information on submitting your application.

Interviews

In-Person interviews will be conducted with those applicants who are invited by NICPP. Two interview dates are arranged by NICPP. Interviews for prospective interns of the 2009-2010 academic year will be held on January 9th and January 16th, 2009. Open houses at the various sites will be on January 8rd and January 15th, 2008.

While it is recommended that applicants try to attend one of the NICPP interview days and the Open houses, we recognize that this may not be feasible for all applicants. Therefore, applicants may arrange a phone interview on another day. Under such circumstances, applicants interviewed by telephone will be given EQUAL CONSIDERATION to those interviewed in person. Applicants who need to visit on a day other than those arranged for interviews, or who need to schedule a phone interview, should contact the CAPS Training Director (Tricia Besett-Alesch, Ph.D., tbesett-alesch2@unl.edu or (402) 472-7450) and the NICPP administrative assistant to arrange an alternative date for a phone interview.

Please Note: Employment at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln will be contingent on satisfactory completion of a background check. The background check is performed after the intern has matched with Counseling and Psychological Services. The content of the background check will include "a check for public and court criminal conviction records for a minimum of ten years, ay include arrest and non-conviction criminal records within the past seven years, and open or pending criminal cases. Criminal history background checks do not involve checks for, or reference to, an applicant's credit history1."
