We Offer The Variety Of Services To International Students
You do not need to sign up to participate in the group. Just check CAPS web-site for the information on the time and location of the next group meeting and join us!
Our staff is available to offer presentations on cultural adjustment to UNL students and faculty. If you would like to invite one of the CAPS professionals to do a presentation on these issues, please contact the CAPS office at 472-7450.

The first three counseling visits are at no charge for any student during their enrollment at UNL. Most international students have the student health insurance policy. This policy will pay for 100% of your charges for any counseling or psychiatric visits. Therefore, international students can receive any of CAPS services at no cost. The only exception is that the policy does not pay for any medications.

We Offer The Variety Of Services To International Students
Individual Counseling
For international students, we attend to the specific concerns you might be experiencing while you are at UNL and away from home. For example, some common reasons to seek counseling may be:- Dealing with changes or stress in your life (e.g., moving to a different country)
- Finding productive ways to adjust to a new culture
- Discovering ways to blend American culture with your own
- Coping with culture shock (e.g., homesickness, desire to avoid social events, physical concerns and sleep disturbances, difficulties with course work and concentration)
- Feeling out of control of emotions such as sadness, loneliness, depression or anger
- Difficulty with building strong relationships with people
- Deciding which way you need to go in your professional development
- Dealing with anxiety or depression
- Healing from significant loss or trauma
Discussion Group "International students in the USA"
This is a 6-week drop-in discussion group that usually starts during the 4th or 5th week of each academic semester. Two professionals facilitate the group. One of the facilitators is an International student and the other is an American professional. The following topics are discussed in the group:- Cross-cultural communication
- Culture shock and other adjustment issues
- Expectations and reality of life in the USA
- Educational system
- Effective coping strategies

Psychoeducational Presentations "Culture Shock and Adjustment Issues"
CAPS psychologists and counselors visit ELL classes every semester to give a short presentation about culture shock. During the presentations, the class has the opportunity to be involved in discussing adjustment issues they experience.Our staff is available to offer presentations on cultural adjustment to UNL students and faculty.
