Responsibilities
Each year, approximately 100 Health Aides serve as links between the UNL campus and the University Health Center. Health Aides assist students with minor illnesses and injuries, provide health related information in their service area and assist with campus projects such as the Campus Blood Drive, Great American Smokeout, health fairs and screenings.
History
The Health Aide Program began in 1957 when the Asian flu epidemic spread throughout UNL's campus. Many students became ill and the University Health Center trained students to care for their peers, thus creating the Health Aide Program. Almost 50 years later, Health Aides are active in Residence Halls, Greek Houses, Cooperatives and the Nebraska Unions.
