The mission of the Nutrition Education Program in the Community Health Education Department of the University Health Center is to provide client-centered individual and group nutrition education and serve as a nutrition resource to UNL students, staff and faculty.
Nutrition Services' Purposes:
- To strive for an atmosphere of harmony within Community Health Education and with other University Health Center departments in order to carry out our objectives efficiently.
- To achieve standards set by Federal, State, and Local Agencies
- To carry out these objectives while encouraging the personal development of each member of the Nutrition Education Department.
- To provide nutrition and modified diet counseling on an individual basis to meet the needs of those being counseled.
- To provide group nutrition and modified diet counseling when appropriate.
- To provide the most up-to-date nutrition information as possible to students.
- To make appropriate referrals to other health care providers, as appropriate.
- To work with other University Departments to enhance the quality of life and education of students.
- To work with other University Health Center and University Departments to promote size acceptance and reduce the incidence of eating disorders.
- To allow for student volunteer experience through PeerNET, SHINE and EDEP Student Association programs.
- To continue to provide the present level of health services and expand services in the area of nutrition education through the University Health Center Health Education Program.
- To monitor the quality of services provided through an ongoing quality assessment program.
- To provide all services in an atmosphere of cultural sensitivity.
- To be fiscally responsible.
