Hourly Labor

hour

For a system that is not under AppleCare, the $60 per hour fee will be billed by the quarter-hour. If the customer's machine is under AppleCare and the issue is warranty related (e.g. dead hard drive, dead power supply but not software-based problems or accidental damage), this fee does not apply.

Service Call Fee

$15

A $15 additional charge is assessed for an on-campus on-site visit. A cost object in advance is required. We are unable to make service calls to private residences.

Rush Charge

$140

A $140 additional fee is charged for rush service. This charge is incurred when a customer wants to have their diagnosis or repair started as soon as the next technician is available.

Non-rush systems are repaired on a first in basis.

Diagnosis

Diagnose specific issues or perform general diagnostic. Applies to all out-of-warranty computers, and any computer affected by accidental damage.

System Cleanup

$60

Remove common viruses, worms, trojans, and spyware.

Fee will be waived on the first system cleanup per calendar year for current faculty, staff and students.

Some viruses, worms, trojans or spyware may not be cleanable and will instead require a data backup and a full reinstall of the operating system (see Basic Operation System Installation).

Basic Operating System Installation

$75

Per basic OS installation, including OS Software Updates, and installation of Antivirus. Does not include data backup or standalone applications. A user must provide their original Windows install media. Apple installation discs are not usually needed. Base install fee does not cover Linux and may not include changing Windows versions.

Boot Camp, VMWare Fusion, or Parallels Desktop Installation

$75

Windows OS Installation onto an Apple computer. Does not include cost of Windows or Fusion/Parallels license.
A valid Windows software license and installation CD must be provided by user.

Data Backup

 

Data backup or recovery, temporary storage and transfer of files.

Simple Backup

$45

Working system to working system, hard drive removal or recovery tools not needed

Typical Backup

Backup of damaged system or hard drive removal needed.

Complex Backup

$90+

Requiring removal of hard drive or use of recovery tools.

Microsoft Office Installation

$15

For Microsoft Office purchased from the UNL Computer Shop.

Memory Installation

MacBook, iMac, Most PC's

Free if memory is purchased from the UNL Computer Shop unless covered below.

Mac Mini, Mac Pro, Select PC's

$15

If memory is purchased from the UNL Computer Shop and where RAM access requires some disassembly. Includes some models of Sony VAIO, Lenovo, and others.

User-Provided RAM or Difficult to Access

$30+

RAM provided by user and which was not purchased from the UNL Computer Shop.

This also includes some models where RAM access is difficult (e.g. some Dell Mini's) even if RAM was purchased from UNL Computer Shop.

Apple Flat-Rate Repair

Flat-rate charge for out-of-warranty repair on Apple Portables.

Spills, cracked LCDs, or other accidental damage are not eligible for this repair service.

MacBook and iBook

$350

Includes parts and labor.

MacBook Pro & PowerBook

$380

Includes parts and labor.

Dell Repair

We are authorized to get replacement parts from Dell (no charge for parts covered by warranty).

Spills, cracked LCDs, or other accidental damage may not be eligible for this repair service.

Typical Dell Warranty
