Employment of J-2 Dependents

Dependents of students and scholars on the J-1 visa may apply to the Immigration Office for permission to work (either off-campus or on-campus), if the money from such employment will be used for the support of the dependents and not for the support of the J-1 alien.

Mail the following by certified mail (save your receipt) to U.S. Immigration in Lincoln (see addresses on letter):
  1. A letter requesting permission to work (see sample letter)
  2. Photocopy of the Form I-94 of the J-2 dependent seeking work permission, both sides
  3. Photocopy of the Form I-94 of the J-1 Exchange Visitor, both sides
  4. Photocopy of the current pink copy of Form IAP-66 of the J-1
  5. Form I-765, signature card and $100.00 fee
  6. Two photos (available at IA for $6)
  7. Photocopy of marriage liscense with English translation
You may be employed only after you receive your employment authorization document.
