Arlen Etling, Faculty Associate

Arlen has held joint positions in university extension and agricultural education in Arizona, Pennsylvania and Nebraska. He taught high school social studies for three years in Cochabamba, Bolivia, before earning his doctorate in International Education at the University of Massachusetts. He has developed and taught eighteen different courses and numerous workshops, and has been a consultant in community based education in Mexico, Indonesia, Japan, Puerto Rico, China, Malaysia, and Costa Rica. He was a Fulbright Scholar in Mexico in 1995. As Director of International Programs of the University of Nebraska Institute for Agriculture and Natural Resources (Oct. 1999 through June, 2002), he worked with faculty and administrators to revise the international minors for CASNR and CHRFS. Study abroad in CASNR grew from 29 students in 2000 to 58 in 2001. Six new study abroad programs were initiated in 2001-2002. As Associate Director of International Affairs his new duties include developing international grants and contracts (mainly with other faculty across UNL), strengthening UNL's Fulbright program, and developing a new program of community outreach related to leadership development of international students.
