Peter Levitov, J.D., has been intimately involved with international education at UNL since 1972, when he joined the University after teaching African History in Liberia for two years. In Lincoln he has worked with international students and scholars, exchange programs, and linkages between UNL and universities around the world. Currently, his principal responsibility supports the institution in securing temporary and permanent visa documentation for foreign faculty, post-doctoral researchers and other professional staff. Levitov also coordinates the Advisory Committee on Study Abroad, the Advisory Committee on International Student Affairs and Phi Beta Delta, the honorary society for international scholars. In addition to his work with International Affairs, he taught for UNL's Centennial Educational Program in the 1970's and, since 1989, has also served as the immigration attorney for the University of Nebraska System. He has written most extensively in the area of immigration regulations affecting the academic community. In 2001 Levitov coordinated UNL's response to the September 11 tragedy and its impact on the international community and the institution at large. He has traveled to more 65 countries.
