Q Who is eligible?
Eligibility requirements depend on the program you choose. UNL strives to offer programs with varying eligibility requirements so you can find a program suitable to your qualifications, academic needs and interests.
Q I am already an international student at UNL. Can I study abroad?
Yes. International students are eligible to apply for study abroad programs at UNL. Please check with International Student and Scholar Services about specific regulations for travel outside ofm and returning to, the U.S.
Q What are the language requirements?
You may be surprised to know that many programs are taught in English, even in countries where English is not the native language! When coursework is exclusively taught in a foreign language, four semesters of college-level language are generally required. There are also introductory and intermediate language programs available.
Q How long are the programs?
You may study abroad for an academic year, semester, summer or even for a few weeks during your winter or summer breaks. The length varies from program to program to fit your needs.
Q What does it cost to study abroad?
Although costs vary from program to program, studying abroad is affordable! UNL International Affairs works to keep costs affordable in order to allow students to gain the invaluable experience studying abroad offers. Many programs are comparable to studying and living at UNL for the same length of time.
Q Is financial aid available?
Yes, most types of financial aid apply to study abroad. Your financial aid may even be increased to help finance your international experience. If you have never received financial aid, you may still be eligible. Consult with Caroline Routh in Scholarships and Financial Aid at 472-2030 about your options. Scholarships are also available through International Affairs.
Q How is credit awarded for study abroad?
In some cases, credits earned abroad are actually UNL credits. Otherwise credit earned at recognized institutions of higher education is transferable to UNL. Careful planning with the study abroad coordinator and faculty can ensure that you receive all the credit you deserve and that it is applicable to your degree.
