UNL Scholarships

Christian Lieding Scholarship and Fellowship Program

  • to encourage exchange between the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and foreign institutions, especially German or German-speaking universities
  • Funding is available for UNL students participating in study abroad programs, and for foreign students who wish to study the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.25/4.0 or equivalent
  • Priority will be given to exchanges with Germany and German-speaking countries, but all locales considered
  • Undergraduate and graduate students welcome to apply

  • Study abroad program in underrepresented area or field of study
  • Commitment to promote UNL study abroad programs upon return

  • Admission to study on an International Studies Abroad (ISA) program
  • Academic merit and financial need will be considered
  • $750 award for semester or academic year program; $500 award for summer programs

Charlotte Kramer Foreign Study Scholarship

  • Enrolled at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln as a full-time student in the academic semester immediately preceding the term for which the scholarship is awarded.
  • Achieved sophomore class standing by the beginning of the term for which the scholarship is awarded.
  • Surpass 3.2 GPA
  • Enrolled in a foreign study program sponsored by or approved for credit by University of Nebraska–Lincoln
  • Deadline is February 1 with scholarship to be used the following summer or academic year

  • Study at Japanese University on UNL exchange for academic year in area of Japanese language

Wiebers International Studies Program

Scholarship amounts are $1,000 (summer), $2,000 (semester), and $3,000 (academic year)
February 1 application deadline

To be considered for this award candidates must:
  • Be enrolled at UNL
  • Demonstrate ability in foreign language
  • Have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Have completed at least 42 credit hours
  • Be participating in a study abroad program sponsored or approved by UNL
  • Demonstrate previous experience in employment, volunteer, or extracurricular activities
  • Be willing to share study abroad experience through an informal presentation upon return

Critical Language Scholarships

  • for Summer Intensive Overseas study in the critical-need foreign languages:

Financial Aid

  • University Scholarships
    - Students abroad are usually eligible to continue receiving their financial aid, including Regents, Honors, and Kiewit Scholarships.
    - The Beadle, Leverton & Douglas Scholarship applies if there's a difference between resident and non-resident program fees.
    - Contact the UNL Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid to make arrangements.
  • Federal Student Loans
    - Your cost of attendance can be adjusted for study abroad but there are some limitations depending on the type of financial aid.
    - You should allow 4-6 weeks for financial aid processing.
    - Contact an advisor in the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid today, or visit the UNL Scholarships and Financial Aid site.
