The University Community
 

The University of Deusto is one of the most distinguished and prestigious academic institutions in Spain, with campuses both in Bilbao and San Sebastián.

The University of Deusto is located in northern Spain in Bilbao, an area in which two official languages of different origins -Spanish and Basque- are spoken. It is located in the heart of the city across from the Guggenheim Museum.

The CIDE (Centro Internacional Deusto de Español) offers courses in language and culture and other areas such as Business and Economics, Sociology, Psychology, Education or European Studies.

Daily class activities are complemented by guided excursions and cultural activities, including, a guided city tour of Bilbao and surrounding coast, a three-day tour of Madrid, Segovia or Toledo.

Upon arrival at Deusto you will be given a placement exam to determine the appropriate level of Spanish for you.

  Living Arrangements
 
Students may live in dormitories on campus or with families. There is a dining room for students staying on campus. Families provide three meals a day. Students staying with families may walk to campus or use the public transportation. Public transportation in Bilbao is both abundant and efficient.
 
  Type of Program
 

Credits earned at University of Deusto are transferable to UNL by department validation. UNL students remain eligible for most scholarships and other forms of financial aid that they normally receive.

   
  Am I Eligible to Apply?
 

Any UNL undergraduate or graduate student is eligible to apply.

Applications are available at International Affairs or www.unl.edu/iaffairs. Application consists of Form A (bio-data), Form B (statement of purpose), an official transcript. Also include an $75 nonrefundable application fee.

Applications are submitted to International Affairs.

   
 
When Should I Apply?
 

The deadline for applications is October 1 and March 1. Later applications will be accepted as long as space is available and Deusto deadlines can be met.

 
 
How Much Will It Cost?
 

Estimated semester cost (2011-2012):
Tuition, UNL fees & insurance: $6821

Additional budget:
Housing in residencia or host family
650-975 Euros per month includes meals

Students should also budget for airfare ($1200), passport ($100), visa ($200), local transportation, entertainment, and personal expenses.

What Else Will I Need?
 

U.S. citizens will need a passport to enter Spain. Books and materials about living, traveling, and working abroad are available in the International Affairs resource center at 420 University Terrace; 472-5358.

A student visa is required for U.S. citizens who plan to stay in Spain more than 90 days. You must apply for your visa at the Spanish consulate in person or by a legal representative. After the visa has been issued, it must be picked up in person at the consulate. Check the consulate website for most current information. www.consulate-spain-chicago.com.
