The University Community |
| |
Kingston offers students the best of both worlds: easy access to central London and peace and security away from the hectic city centre. It is one of the most pleasant locations in the London area and only 25 minutes by train to the capital. Although part of Greater London, Kingston has retained its own identity. It has a lively town centre with historic buildings and monuments, modern shopping developments and a pleasant riverside environment with plenty of large, open, green spaces and parks.
The University plays an important role in Kingston and the surrounding area. As one of the area’s largest employers and a regional focus for higher education, it has developed a close relationship with the local council, the Royal Borough of Kingston. It has also built a strong partnership with the business community through the Chamber of Commerce.
The University is a major centre of artistic and cultural activity in Kingston. The Stanly Picker Gallery of the Arts is open to local people and students and staff in the Faculty of Design are involved in community-based arts projects. The University’s choir and orchestra have a good reputation and perform regularly at venues in the town. |
