China CBA 2010

China is the world's most rapidly changing large economy with a population of 1.3 billion. This represents about 20% of the world's population.

The program includes an overview of China from a business and economic perspective during a four week summer study abroad program in Xi'an, China. The program will be hosted by Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU), partner in UNL's Confucius Institute. A UNL professor will accompany the group and teach the course in English.

Program highlights include:

  • Introduction to Chinese language and culture
  • Site visits to business enterprises
  • Informal interaction with Chinese students
  • Visits to cultural and historical sites

The tentative schedule includes two hours of Chinese language classes each morning. During the afternoons, visits will be arranged to businesses or cultural sites.

At the end of the three week course in Xi'an, the group will travel together to Shanghai and Beijing for five days of further cultural exploration.

Xi'an
Xi'an is a famous historic and cultural city of China established in the 11th century B.C. It is one of the four ancient capitals of China. Well-known places of interest are the Banpo Museum, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, the City Wall and Li Mountain scenic spot. The Museum of the First Qin Emperor and his Terra-Cotta Warriors and Horses is called the 8th marvelous spectacle of the world. Xi'an is also the starting point of the Silk Road, which linked China with Europe in ancient times.

Shanghai
Ever changing and rapidly modernizing, Shanghai is the most populous city in China and is one of the largest cities in the world. It is the commercial center of the country.

Beijing
Site of the 2008 Summer Olympics, Beijing is home to China's central government. It is vibrant and rapidly changing city with ancient palaces, temples and parks. The Forbidden City is considered one of the world's most beautiful architectural wonders. Emperors of the Ming Dynasty began construction of this imperial palace in 1406. Outside the city you'll have the opportunity to walk on the Great Wall, the most famous engineering wonder of China, built as a defense against invaders in centuries B.C.

Accommodations
You will stay in modern dorm facilities on the Jiaotong University campus. Your rooms will include an ensuite bathroom and free laundry services will be available. Your meals will be at the foreign student cafeteria and other cafeterias. Housing in Shanghai and Beijing will be double occupancy.
