The University Community
 

The University of Deusto is one of the most distinguished and prestigious academic institutions in Spain, with campuses both in Bilbao and San Sebastián.

The University of Deusto is located in northern Spain in Bilbao, an area in which two official languages of different origins -Spanish and Basque- are spoken.

The courses are designed to develop the four linguistic skills: Listening comprehension, conversation, reading and writing. In addition, the program offers courses on Spanish Literature, Spanish culture and business. Daily class activities are complemented by guided excursions and cultural activities, including, in addition to a guided visit of Bilbao and surrounding coast, tours of Madrid, Segovia, Toledo and Burgos and a trip to Pamplona during the San Fermín festival

Upon arrival at Deusto you will be given a placement exam to determine the appropriate level of Spanish for you.

  Living Arrangements
 
Students may live in dormitories on campus or with families. There is a dining room for students staying on campus. Families provide three meals a day. Students staying with families may walk to campus or use the public transportation. Public transportation in Bilbao is both abundant and efficient.

June 27 (Sunday): Depart from the US.
June 28 (Monday): -Arrival of students in Madrid in the morning.
June 28-30: Tour of Madrid, Segovia.
June 30 (Wednesday): Arrival in Bilbao
July 1 (Thursday): Reception at the University. Orientation. Spanish placement test
July 2 (Friday): Academic Orientation. Plentzia excursion.
July 3 (Saturday): Visit the Guggenheim Museum
July 5 (Monday): Classes begin
July 7 (Wednesday): Briefing on Pamplona and San Sebastian Tour (mandatory).
July 8 (Thursday): Excursion to Pamplona: San Fermines and San Sebastian
July 9 (Friday): Official registration
July 10: (Saturday): Excursion to historical sites: House of Government at Gernika, Urdaibai estuary, San Juan de Gaztelugatxe
July 29 (Thursday): Final exams. End of program.
July 30 (Friday): Students leave the residence hall or family.

Please note this program ends in Bilbao.

  Type of Program
 

Credits earned at University of Deusto are transferable to UNL by department validation. UNL students remain eligible for most scholarships and other forms of financial aid that they normally receive.

   
  Am I Eligible to Apply?
 
Any UNL undergraduate or graduate student in good standing is eligible to apply. A 2.5 GPA is preferred.

Applications are available at International Affairs or on the www.unl.edu/iaffairs website. Application consists of Form A (bio-data), B (statement of purpose), an official UNL transcript and a Deusto application form available from International Affairs. Applications are submitted to International Affairs.
   
 
When Should I Apply?
 

The priority deadline for applications is March 15. Later applications will be accepted as long as space is available and Deusto deadlines can be met.

 
 
How Much Will It Cost?
 
The estimated cost (2010) for the summer program is $4279. This includes instructional costs, insurance, and room and board. Students should also budget for airfare, passport, local transportation, entertainment, and personal expenses.

What About Transportation?
 
A list of suggestions for student discounted airfare is available from International Affairs.
 
 
What Else Will I Need?
 
U.S. citizens will need a passport to enter Spain. Books and materials about living, traveling, and working abroad are available in the International Affairs resource center at 420 University Terrace; 472-5358.
