Information Technology Support

Information Technology Support, ITS, is the administrative section of Information Services responsible for assisting UNL faculty, staff and students who use information technology as a tool for teaching, learning, research and outreach by providing help desk, training and consulting services, as well as sales and management of desktop computing resources. Services are provided by four units within ITS.

Computer Help Center

The Computer Help Center personnel assist clients in the use of electronic mail, World Wide Web (WWW), BlackBoard, network connections, ISP Solutions, mainframe accounts, Lotus Notes, microcomputer operating systems, disk recovery and file translation. They also assist clients with computer virus eradication,and also provide computer and printer repair services for a fee

The Help Desk is open daily Sunday through Saturday 7:30am to 11:30pm. You can contact the Computer Help Center by phone, e-mail or in person: 472-3970 or 866-472-3970 toll free, helpdesk@unl.edu or room 105 of the 501 Building (on the west edge of city campus).

Instructional Technology Group (ITG)

The Instructional Technology Group is responsible for maintaining the public computer labs, general purpose classrooms and the New Media Center.

Public student computer labs (472-5268) offer the campus community unparalleled access and a wide-range of software applications. The team also administers multimedia and distance learning classrooms (472-0979 / Emergency 450-6350) which provide technology-rich learning environments to enhance presentation and instruction.

The New Media Center (472-0600) Faculty Development Lab provides equipment and consulting for working with multimedia. Personal assistance is available by appointment. Although creation of teaching materials is the highest priority, the center is also available for research and other academic uses. The multimedia classroom is available during the day for regular classes and can be reserved by faculty.

ITG also offers workshops for faculty/staff and students on a variety of the latest multimedia software. Workshops for students are supported by the Student Technology Fee and are, therefore, free-of-charge to the individual student. Student workshops also cover basic computing needs.

Custom Support

Custom Support (472-8846) provides computer and technology-related support services campus-wide, to the faculty and staff of the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.

Services provided on a fee-basis include microcomputer repair, contract-based technical support, network installations, and software installations. Support services are provided at three levels: One-Time Support basis, Contract Support basis, or as part of a Partner Program Support relationship.

Computer Sales

Tom Hansen, Coordinator

Computer Sales helps with computer hardware and software purchases. Departments or individuals can purchase items, many at "educational discount" prices. Computer Sales manages the contracts for the university's Prime Vendors for computer hardware and site licenses for software. Computer Sales can be reached at 472-5787 and Computer Repair at 472-5677.
