Bio
Linda Shipley is the Associate Dean and William H. Kearns Professor for the College of Journalism and Mass Communications. She teaches the graduate theory and research methods courses on campus and through distance education. The distance classes are taught in real time and involve interactions between campus and distance students during each class session. Sometimes students enrolled in her classes come from as many as 14 states.
Linda is on the editorial boards of Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly and Newspaper Research Journal. She represented the American Academy of Advertising on the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications from 2000 to 2006. She served on the Council committee that developed the accrediting guidelines for a professional graduate program. She also provided guidance for the development of the outcomes assessment guidelines for ACEJMC. Linda also served on the Accrediting Committee of ACEJMC for two terms. She is currently on the AEJMC Standing Committee on Research and served a three-year term on the AEJMC Publications Board. Linda held various positions on the executive committee of the Advertising Division for six years.
A graduate of the University of Nebraska College of Journalism and Mass Communications, Linda received her master's degree from the University of Missouri School of Journalism. After receiving her Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Annenberg School for Communication, she taught at the Missouri School of Journalism for ten years before moving to Nebraska. Prior to her career in teaching, Linda was a research associate for Management Behavioral Sciences in New York City and Psychological Associates in St. Louis. She also was a marketing research analyst with ITT Aetna Management Company while in St. Louis. In addition, she worked for the Lincoln Journal as a general assignment reporter and a retail advertising account executive.
