Bio
Scott Winter is in his fourth year as a news-editorial professor and college recruiter. He specializes in feature writing and page design, but has taught everything from Principles of Mass Media to Redwire magazine editing.

Winter taught high school journalism and English for 10 years in four schools in North Dakota, Minnesota and Colorado. His students won big fat awards, including national Best of Show rankings and Pacemakers, which they used as bathroom passes. They won Hemingway Awards from the Kansas City Star and even two Robert F. Kennedy Foundation Journalism Awards. Winter took most of the credit.

He also was a professional journalist for five years, working in sports writing, feature writing, graphic design and feature editing. He's been spit on by NFL football players and got sick while covering his first rodeo (his stomach couldn't handle the calf roping).

Winter has a bachelor's degree in English from the University of North Dakota (1992) and a master's in creative writing from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He also earned a residency at the Vermont Studio Center.

Winter has an unhealthy fascination for singer Natalie Merchant. He eats red meat, even as a snack. His dog, Fred, won't listen to him, neither will his wife or two children, but interestingly enough, the plants do. He loves to play tennis, and has a left-handed serve that will make your mouth water, even as the ball glances off your rib cage.
