SHELDON MARKETING/PUBLIC RELATIONS INTERNSHIP

The Sheldon Museum of Art seeks an intern to assist the Public Relations and Marketing Manager in promoting the museum and providing timely information to visitors and potential visitors.

The individual will work on various projects including: promoting First Friday receptions, writing copy for web pages, assisting at public events, posting fliers at numerous locations on campus and downtown, writing copy for and laying out basic ads and posters, developing strategies to reach and attract students to the museum.

This is a voluntary, unpaid internship. However, an intern, who has prior approval of a faculty sponsor, can earn one credit hour for each 50 hours worked, or, who works 10 to 15 hours per week throughout the semester and successfully completes the internship in the view of the Sheldon Marketing Manager is eligible for a $500 stipend.

Necessary prerequisites: Candidates must have good writing and editing skills, experience with InDesign and Photoshop, and a work history in public relations and marketing or be at least a sophomore and have successfully completed Advertising 332.

What a public relations/marketing intern does at Sheldon Museum of Art

1. Assists in distribution of materials around the campus and city. While making these drops, the intern is expected to develop rapport with clerks and managers in workplaces ranging from restaurants and bistros to learning community coordinators.
2. Assists in developing campaigns, strategies for promoting a variety of exhibitions and events. This includes defining specific target audiences on campus and beyond and the most effective and efficient methods to reach them.
3. Writing, rewriting and editing copy for a variety of audiences, media and publications.
4. Updating web site information and images using html code for formatting.
5. Designing posters, ads and announcements to effectively attract and stop readers, and to motivate desired responses.
6. Crafting and targeting effective messages using broadcast e-mail software.
7. Participating event planning meetings, and occasionally personally representing the Sheldon at appropriate events.
8. Creating photographs, using a camera and photoshop software, for Sheldon publications and web sites.
9. Recording and processing audio of speakers to create pod casts.
10. Learning effective group and one-on-one dynamics for accomplishing tasks.

Applicants for this internship need not have experience in every aspect of the job to apply. An internship is a learning experience, and we will provide training where necessary
