Study Abroad This Summer!

There's so much to learn this summer through the College of Journalism and Mass Communications' study abroad courses. But these classes won't happen in a traditional setting. Instead of stuffy classrooms, you'll see picturesque villas, white sand beaches, and maybe a buzzing metropolis. Each course is worth 3 credit hours toward any major in the CoJMC. It's time to get your passport (you'll need one for Mexico, too) and get ready for a world-class experience of a lifetime. Summer course registration begins March 5, 2007.

JOUR 498/898: International Media
- Mexico
Professor Phyllis Larsen will take you to the Yucatan peninsula to juxtapose the principles of how mass media affects our society with that of a developing country. Students will visit the island of Cozumel and the city of Cancun, an environment rich with examples of cross-cultural communication, to examine news and advertising functions. The class will begin and end on the UNL campus, with maximum time "in country" during the three weeks. Recent changes in U.S. law require a passport to travel in Mexico.

JOUR 498/898: International Media
- Southern France
Professor Luis Peon-Casanova will once again travel to the stunning Provence area of France with students interested in digital photography. The group will stay in a privately owned villa located in a picturesque village, Ste. Cecille les Vignes, a setting that will provide inspiration for practicing the principles of photo composition, use of lenses, color vs. black and white, Photoshop techniques, digital camera basics, and above all, observation. Although this course is listed in the Eight Week session, the class lasts three weeks, with maximum time "in country."

The class will spend the first week on campus to learn about global advertising principles and the economic, political and social background of Germany. The following two weeks the class will travel to and around Germany, and will create a "cultural guidebook" based on their experiences.
