Visiting Cute Knut
May 31, 2007
On Thursday we ventured to the Berlin Zoo to see the famous ice bear (polar bear) Knut. We discovered visitors could only see Knut at two, one-hour showings per day. We joined the line of what looked like more than 200 hundred people, and surprisingly we were able to see Knut during the late morning showing. The popularity of Knut was originally spawned from the controversy of the zoo's decision to not kill Knut after his mother rejected him when he was born.
After we got a glimpse of Knut we wandered around the zoo, visiting tigers, lions, panda bears, monkeys and elephants among other animals. We all indulged in a magnum ice cream bar an hour into our tour of the zoo and left after we had seen enough animals.
On the way back to the hotel, we went shopping in the neighboring stores and Kristin found a children's book she had spent several days searching for this past week. The rest of us made our way back to the hotel and got ready to visit Museumsinsel.
Museumsinsel is an island of historic museums in Berlin. We decided to go to the Pergamon museum. In there we walked up the steps of the Altar of Zeus and stood in front of the Gate of Ishtar. After seeing many other pieces of ancient artwork varying from sculptures to paintings, we traveled across the street where Kristin and Jeralee indulged in a strawberry crepe and Megan bought more postcards.
Tomorrow we'll be touring the advertising agency Scholz & Friends and heading off to the apartment of Kristin's friend Tine.
