Stories like these make the job real

On Friday, I had my first hard story to cover. This is the hard part about the job. I went to Longmount, CO with Steve Saunders and Major King to cover a story about a newlywed couple. The husband was killed the day after the couple's wedding. He was putting wedding gifts away in the trunk of the car in the front of his in-laws house when a car veered off the road and hit him.
The story was just heartbreaking. I even started to tear up during one of the interviews. You can tell that I haven't had that much practice doing stories like these. The rest of the day was just spent working on that story.
On Tuesday I went to the tuberculosis press conference at National Jewish Hospital with Mitch Jenliker. It was really neat because all of the TV and newspapers were there, in addition to CNN and Good Morning America. The press conference just let us know that Mr. Speak doesn't have EDR tuberculosis but MDR. You know things like this are a challenge for reporters because the press conference goes really in depth and most news stations have to backtime for all of the information and have to learn how to condense the main news. In addition, medical terms are hard to grasp if there isn't some kind of background. All in all it went over well.
Things are going well. I only have one month left...so its time to kick things in gear. I have to get busy writing some packages that I'm planning on using on my resume tape. I'm not overly impressed with any of my stand ups. They still need some work.
