Another FestivalJuly 15, 2007 I went to another festival this weekend; Wisconsin people sure like to celebrate on the weekends. This one celebrated all things Greek. I arrived at the festival and wandered a bit to see all the fair had to offer. After a lap around everything without taking any pictures I noticed a busy tent full of women making Baklava sundaes. I asked if I could take pictures and for the next hour and a half I didn't stop shooting or tasting Greek food. The volunteers who made and prepared all the food were very outgoing and generous. After shooting the baklava sundae area, a volunteer ushered me over to the pastries tent where I learned about all the different Greek pastries and how they baked tens of thousands of them over the last two months. Then a man showed up and said, "Hey do you want to come to the saganaki tent?" I followed eager to get pictures of flaming cheese. They offered me a plate, but I said I couldn't accept free things. He paused for a second and then said that's ok. A few minutes later I received a plate with the instructions, "This one has a mistake in it, we can't sell it so you have to eat it." It was delicious. Then one of the young volunteers had to go get ready for a folk dancing performance so I followed her into a trailer full of people donning traditional Greek costumes. Then I watched the folk dancing. I had to leave early or risk being late for another deadline. But all in all it was a pretty awesome day. |
