Videos are hard to make, but it was fun.

Back in high school I made a couple of craptacular movies with my friends: a comedy based on our friend Beau's original one-act play, "Blind Date", a documentary of Marian's Field Day and Steve Erwin spoof for religion class called "Morality Hunter." But then I put my eye behind a still camera and decided I liked that much better. Well now the industry is shifting and suddenly newspaper photographers are making movies for the web. So this month I picked up a video camera, a fancy HD model this time, and made another video. It was really difficult to adjust to shooting continuously instead of waiting for moments. But I had fun and learned and relearned a few things, two important lessons: video editing always takes longer than you think it will and tripods do not work well on a boat. Click here to see my movie about a high school crew team, "Pulling Together." It's short and sweet, but I think it works.

One of the best things about photojournalism is the number of hours I spend in the sun and not in the office.
