Sensational Reality
July 2, 2007
Ashley Pritchard, Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, IL.
This week at work I wrote my first media release for an upcoming performance art event. The event kicks off a four-week series of very contemporary performances that bridge that gap between performance and visual art. To my surprise and pleasure, the event is garnering quite a bit of attention from print media. Now my duty is to reel in attention from the broadcast world.
The nature of the performance is quite serious, so my first attempts at humor and splashy writing seemed inappropriate due to the content of the performance. I might have been using a pirate reference, which I thought was funny, but doesn't bode well with grieving the death of U.S. soldiers. Then I got bogged down in the details of other dates and performances. After a brainstorming session for more sensational versions of lament and mourn, I finally produced a media alert my supervisor thought would garner media attention. Now I just have to wait until Tuesday and cross my fingers.
My living situation also vastly improved this week when I moved. I took a hot shower and celebrated my new apartment. I downsized the number of roommates so now I only have one compared to five and I'm a bit closer to work.
It is fun to learn a new neighborhood and find new coffee shops and eateries. Unfortunately drunken Cubs baseball fans still find their way to my streets, but they seem to only come out for Saturday games now so that is a nice change. I think I would be happy anywhere, save a cardboard box, after living in my other residence for six weeks, I'm just so happy to have hot water!

I am a senior advertising and Spanish major. This summer, I am interning in
the media relations department of the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art
from May to August. I am excited to check out the windy city and maybe a
Cubs game or two. During the school year, I am the marketing intern at the
Lied Center for Performing Arts, so i'm excited to stay connected to the
arts. Email Me, View All Ashley's Entries |
