Grey Days and SmartPower Contest

June 19, 2007
Dan Sheppard, Grey New York, New York City, NY.

I'm not good at keeping up with regular posts...

Since you've heard from me I've been all over with things.

  • sat in on a couple of creative briefs (very cool) one of them Dairy Queen
  • done some photoshop work for a celphone game
  • made a logo for our floor out of poop (in photoshop of course) which was one of the requests from an Art Director there (see below)
  • took a stab at writing a DQ spot while another intern storyboarded it. Presented it to the Creative Director and he told us that we needed a more campaignable idea. I'll keep trying
  • played some foosball ;)
  • talked a lot about an idea for a viral video they will be executing. I'm also going to try to get some sound effects for that
  • A lot of getting to know the interns and employees there

More notable is something that happened yesterday. I received a $10,000 check for a contest I entered for an organization called SmartPower: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXJ7ShQGAXo

The check was presented to me at the One Club here in NYC and I even got to meet Richard Earle who gave me a signed copy of his book. His specialty is Cause Marketing and is most famous for his ad called "The Crying Indian": http://youtube.com/watch?v=X3QKvEy0AIk

Google (YouTube's owner) is talking about my ad over in the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in France and almost flew us out there. Right now they are trying to get the most press out of this as possible and are trying to get me on The Tonight Show. It's aiming high but these guys are excellent promoters.

Here's some more info about the contest. The podcast says I'm a film student but it's a mistake: www.smartpower.org/blog (scroll down until you see the post about the winning video.)

'Til next time...
