Summer is done, Internships are FUN!!

August 8, 2007
Alison TePoel, Three Eagles Communications in Lincoln, NE

Hello everyone! Summer is almost over and it's hard to believe school will be starting soon. I just finished my radio internship at Three Eagles Communications on August 3rd and I have had an amazing summer there.

Over the summer I have grown a lot as an individual and developed many new skills. One thing I've learned for sure is that no matter where you work or what setting you're in you need good communication skills. Everyone needs to be able to work with all kinds of people to get a job done, along with this you have to pull your weight because people rely on you to make a large company work.

I just wanted to let you all know that radio is definitely a career to explore. There are so many diverse jobs available, here are a few possibilities: on-air, sales rep, writing ads, promotional department, manager, dj, news reporter, secretary, and traffic.

Broadcasting is full of diverse jobs and sometimes what we see or hear is just the beginning of what is actually needed behind the scenes to make everything work. If you have any interest in broadcasting I recommend just jumping in and seeing what it's all about. Go shadow a dj or sales person, so you can get a taste of what that career is actually like. Take on challenges and explore as much as you can. You will enjoy it and even if you don't you will learn a lot.

I encourage students to apply for the Bayliss Intern Program for next summer, I know that it will be a positive experience for anyone who gives it a try! It was an amazing opportunity for me and I learned so much. All I can say is, give radio a try, there is amazing potential and opportunities out there. Enjoy what's left of summer!!!
