Student Recognition
J Days, held April 13-14, is a week of activities designed to build unity and spirit within the college and to promote communication between the different sequences. The J Days 2005 program lists students who were recognized for scholarship and achievement in the following areas:

Ad Club
Hayseed Creative, the UNL College of Journalism and Mass Communications' National Student Advertising Competition team, placed second out of 11 teams in the April 22 American Advertising Federation District 9 contest in Dubuque, Iowa.
Chancellor's Scholars
Stephanie C. Sparks, Central City, was honored as a Chancellor's Scholar April 17 during the University Scholars Convocation. Sparks earned a perfect 4.0 grade-point average on all graded work at UNL or elsewhere.
Nebraska ADDYs
Students won four Gold ADDYs, 10 Silver ADDYs and two Special Judge's Citation in the 2004 Nebraska ADDYs competition. The competition, sponsored by the Advertising Federation of Lincoln, was held in February in Lincoln.
Phi Beta Kappa
Aaron Thomas Eske, Lincoln, has been elected to the UNL chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. He is one of four journalism students to be selected. Those honored are in the top 10 percent of their graduating class.
Student Impact Award
Stephanie Turman was selected as one of three finalists for President of the Year. Turman is president of the student Advertising Club. The Student Impact Awards, sponsored by Student Involvement, nominated 15 students for this award.
Broadcasting
Hearst competition
Christopher Welch, Dakota Dunes, S.D., placed second nationally in the 45th annual William Randolph Foundation's Journalism Awards for Television Broadcast News Championship. Dustin Shilling, Greenville, Pa., was a semi-finalist in the Radio Broadcast News Championship. The championship was held in San Francisco, May 23-28, 2005.
Nebraska finished third in the overall competition. In the broadcast news competition Nebraska finished third. Individual winners are:

- Elizabeth Dorland, 6th, radio
- Melissa Fry, 9th, radio
- Juanita Page, 16th, television
Northwest Broadcast News Association
UNL broadcast journalism students won four first-place awards and four award of merits in the 2004 Northwest Broadcast News Association competition. The awards in the student market radio and television category were in series, documentary, Web site, sports reporting, feature news and general reporting.
Real Nebraska Movie Contest
Juanita Page was a runner up in the Real Nebraska Movie Contest at its awards show on March 3. Page qualified for a $250 prize. The contest, designed as a variation of the popular "Real Nebraska" project, features UNL students on an interactive Web site.

Nebraska finished third in the overall competition. In the writing competition Nebraska finished sixth. Individual winners are:

Phi Beta Kappa
Suzanna Grace Adam, Wilcox, Patricia Lynn Vannoy, Lincoln, and Crystal Kay Wiebe, Beatrice, have been elected to the UNL chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. They are three of four journalism students to be selected. Those honored are in the top 10 percent of their graduating class.
SPJ Region 7 Mark of Excellence
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln student newspaper, the Daily Nebraskan, and nine individual students in the UNL College of Journalism and Mass Communications were recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists at its Region 7 conference in February.
NNPA (photojournalism competition)
The Nebraska News Photographers Association named CoJMC student Brian Lehmann the college photographer of the year. Alyssa Schukar was the runner-up. The competition was held April 16 in Omaha
