The New Member Program of Sigma Chapter is unique every year, though certain traditions are passed on to every new member class.
The six week program begins on Bid Day, usually celebrated as a barbecue held at an active's house. After Kappa's new members meet their Key Sis, they ride with their KORE family to the party, where they socialize, eat, and formally pledge Kappa!
The program continues with weekly meetings where the new members learn about Kappa, sing Kappa songs, pick Junior Panhellenic Delegates and social chairs, and plan Sneak!
During Monday night meetings, council members present programs on scholarship, Kappa history, and other themes to familiarize the new members with Kappa. Also, the girls are encouraged to attend non-mandatory events, such as Sigma Chi Derby Days, and also more Kappa orientated events like serenading and KORE Spotlight Dinners.
A live-in lock out is held 3-4 weeks into the program and is exactly what it sounds like. The new members came over to the house and snack, decorate their Key Sis' door, receive their wooden key and letters from their KORE, and pass the key.
It's a great time for the pledge class to get to know everyone better.
Overall, the New Member Program strives to involve its new members while helping them to assimilate and feel comfortable with Kappa.
