General Philanthropic Information

Kappa Delta is proud to have four outstanding philanthropic organizations—the most of any Pan-Hellenic sorority!  Here is a look at what Kappa Deltas all over the country donate their time and money to:

  • Children's Hospital in Rich mond , Virginia
  • Prevent Child Abuse America
  • Girl Scouts of the USA
  • American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons

Here at UNL we host two annual philanthropies, White Rose Bowl and Chilifest, in addition to working with local Girl Scout Troops throughout the year. In the spring of 2005 and 2006, Kappa Deltas cosponsored Masters Classic—a mini-golf tournament—with Alpha Gamma Sigma. Additionally, Kappa Deltas are huge supporters of other Greek philanthropic events.

White Rose Bowl

Our fall philanthropy is White Rose Bowl, a flag football tournament for the fraternities on campus. Fraternities from both UNL and Wesleyan University head out to the fields to participate.

For playing in the tournament, teams get a day of fierce and fun competition and of course great coaching from the Kappa Deltas!

The day long events it is a great time to cheer on you favorite teams and to hangout with all your sisters.

All the proceeds raised from the White Rose Bowl tournament go to support the Children's Hospital in Richmond, Virginia.

We want to send out our congratulations to our Fall 2005 Champions FARMHOUSE!

Chilifest

In the spring, we hold our Shamrock Event—Chilifest. Shamrock Events, staged by thousands of Kappa Delta women in hundreds of communities all over the country, are held throughout the month of March to raise money for Prevent Child Abuse America. Several Shamrock Events have earned national media attention.

Chilifest is an all-you-can-eat buffet serving homemade chili, vegetarian chili, chicken noodle soup, and finger—licking good cinnamon rolls. Not only do we serve food, but we sponser a chili cook-off and bring in local bands to play in the park next to our house. Chilifest is one of the oldest philanthropies on UNL’s campus. It has become one of the biggest and most recognized philanthropic events on campus and we plan to keep it there!

A large part of our donations go directly to the CEDARS Youth Services right here in Lincoln . CEDARS provides emergency shelter, residential care, early childhood development, outreach and prevention to children, youth and their families. Chilifest 2006 raised over $5000 for this amazing cause!

Girl Scouts

Kappa Delta is the first and only National Pan-Hellenic Conference Group to adopt the Girl Scouts as a national philanthropy. Throughout the year, Kappa Deltas work with the Girl Scouts in a number of ways. Our chapter holds various events including pizza parties, makeover parties and tie-dyeing days for the younger girls. Many Kappa Deltas also volunteer their own time to help out with the Girl Scouts. There is even

KD Girl Scout Badge
a special Kappa Delta badge that the Girl Scouts can receive after participating in an activity with the women of Kappa Delta!

Orthopedic Research

First presented in 1950, the National Kappa Delta Orthopedic Research Awards have grown in stature to become the most coveted awards in the orthopedic field. These annual awards, known as the “Noble Prize of Orthopedic Research,” reward three $20,000 grants in recognition of outstanding research to be used towards the continuation of study and exploration.
