Policy Statement
Students who need to have their attendance recorded must bring a valid UNL ID card, must present the card at the desk to check in, and, within a maximum of 50 minutes, must present the ID card again to check out.
- Students present their UNL ID cards, which are passed through the scanner.
- The ID cards should be in good working order, so that the scanner can read them properly. If ID cards are damaged so that they do not work properly, we will direct the students to enter their UNL ID number on the keyboard when they check in and out.
- Students may work in the Lab for a maximum of 50 minutes at a time. At the end of the 50-minute limit, students must check out and leave the equipment free for the next person. If there is no waiting line, students may check in for a second 50-minute period.
- Please note: In order for an attendance to count, students must check in when they come, and check out when they leave.
- Any time above 50 minutes per session will be rounded off to 50 minutes. Anyone who fails to check out within two hours will have her/his attendance record cancelled for that session.
- Students who do not need to have their attendance recorded do not present an ID card, but they must still wait their turn if there is a waiting line. Instructors will receive a weekly e-mail report of their students' lab attendance.

General information
In some courses you will need to purchase audio cassettes onto which the instructional material will be recorded periodically by the Language Lab staff. Most of the time, the cassettes will be recorded on both sides (Sides A and B).
We accept only exact-length cassettes in order to ensure a proper recording on both sides of the cassettes. If the cassettes are shorter than the specified length, the end of side A - and definitely the beginning of side B - will be cut from the recording. If the cassettes are longer than the specified length, all the material will be recorded, but the recording on side B will not begin at the beginning of the side B. Also, since cassettes longer than 90 minutes tend to be rather fragile, we avoid them.
For these reasons, we will process only cassettes of the length as specified below for each course.

Acceptable brands of audio cassettes
Normal bias of the brands listed below:

It is possible to purchase audio cassettes at the Instructional Design Center in Henzlik Hall 122, where you will be guaranteed to obtain an appropriate product. Just tell them which length you need.
Labeling your audio cassettes
Label your audio cassettes on Side A of the cassettes, on the spine, and on the front of the liner with your name, course, and section number as illustrated.
Label your cassettes following the pattern below.

Texts and lab manuals
Every textbook has its own way of setting up its exercise and lab manuals. Please explore your textbook and its accompanying manuals. Take a look at what all goes on in the Lab. The Lab Tour will help newcomers to find their way around in the Lab.
