302 Burnett Hall

The Modern Languages Laboratory at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is located in Burnett Hall 302. The Lab is staffed and maintained by Lab Manager Matthew Maddox and Graduate Teaching Assistants.

The Language Lab is controlled by the Sony LLC-9000 Language Lab System with 64 audio student positions. The system is capable of either independent work by students or instructor-led learning via audio cassette playback and recording through headsets.

Most of the work done by our students in the Lab is on an independent, out-of-class basis. We distribute the audio programs by taping them onto audio cassettes provided by the students, and/or we make programs available on our computers.

The Language Lab also has video and computer capabilities. Twenty-four student positions can receive video programming from the console. Forty positions have 20" or 17" iMacs. They have audio in and out through the tape decks. All computers are connected to a Mac G5 file server and also to the Internet.

305 Burnett Hall

The lab in 305 Burnett is shared with our ESL program. It has 28 positions with the same capabilities as the lab in 302. Each student station has a cassette deck and a 20" Intel iMac. We use this facility for class activities.
