Last Lecture Series
The goal of the Last Lecture Series is to encourage face-to-face interaction between faculty and students out of the classroom. The activity (which could be a slide show, walking around campus, talking about a hobby, touring of a laboratory, watching a movie, attending a concert, presenting current research, or just playing board games with students) would occur in the residence halls on campus or at other locations with residence hall students invited to attend. Don’t worry, if you volunteer we will make sure you have a contact person and know where to go in the residence halls. The program can be as short or as long as you desire. (Typical length is 45 minutes-1 hour.)
This is a volunteer opportunity, which has a minimal time commitment, offers direct informal and personal interactions with students, promotes student success through faculty and university connections, and allows for faculty to share their research or scholarly work, skills, passions, or hobby with students outside the classroom. Some examples could include performances from the Music department, movie nights and discussion from CASNR faculty, local election debates, dinner with Engineering faculty, and tours of laboratories.
The 2009-2010 Last Lecture Series is coordinated through the Office of Residence Life, where student staff members and residence hall leaders submit requests for programs. The Office of Residence Life would then contact you and arrange a time and date that best fits your schedule and coordinate supplies or equipment as needed for the program. We are cognizant of your many time commitments and therefore monitor the number of times your program is requested. In addition, we would be delighted to recognize your commitment to student success and offer documentation of your volunteer service as requested.
