Scholars Communities

CEHS Advantage Scholars

The College of Education and Human Sciences (CEHS) is committed to enhancing individuals, families, schools and communities. Programs of study associated with this community range from teacher preparation to textiles to nutrition and athletic training to developing strong families. Students in this invited community will study with others who share the college's vision of academic excellence, commitment and professional success.

The overarching goal of the Community is to develop engaged, successful graduates by building professional and ethical competence into career development. CEHS programs provide the knowledge and job-specific competency needed. Each student will engage in focused coursework that enhances their skills and talents while developing professional skills universally sought by employers--problem solving, teamwork, leadership, creativity and communication. Classes will support both academic requirements and professional development. Suggested professional development classes include: EDPS 337 Leadership Development; CEHS 200 Families, Schools and Community; EDPS 209 Strategies for Academic Success. Students will be expected to develop a plan to prepare them for a successful transition into their selected professional career choice.

Justin Smith Morrill Scholars: Engaging, Serving, and Leading

The Justin Smith Morrill Scholars program draws upon the life experience, experiences and accomplishments of Justin Smith Morrill, author of the Land-Grand College Acts of 1862 and 1890, to teach students to embrace and engage in life-long interdisciplinary "renaissance" learning and education, advance the public good through social and civic engagements and service, exhibit and model the qualities of a successful leader, and act in a leadership role when and where needed and appropriate, and to appreciate and articulate the importance of the Land-Grant College Acts and the role of the Land-Grant University in the modern era. Our students are committed to becoming responsible, independent citizens who are intellectually curious, articulate, confident and resourceful.
