News

The Lentz Center for Asian Culture sadly announces the passing of our co-founder and patron, Mrs. Velma G. Lentz. She, with her late husband, Professor Donald Lentz, founded the Center in 1983.

It opened to the public 1986. Mrs. Lentz served tirelessly to help to bring her husband’s dream into reality. She even served as Director for a brief period following his death and before her own health problems kept her from coming in to the museum on a regular basis. In addition to her museum skills, she was a trained concert pianist.

After sharing 10 trips to Asia with her husband, Mrs. Lentz maintained a permanent interest in the Center and its activities. She died at age 95 after an admittedly, “fantastic life.” We salute her many contributions.
