Lost & Found Policy

In keeping with the policy adopted by University of Nebraska Campus Police, the following policy will apply to items turned in to the Circulation Desk as Lost and Found at Love Library or any branch library.

Staff will accept and attempt to find the owner for:

  • Calculators and electronics with a minimum value of $50.00
  • Prescription eyeglasses, including sunglasses
  • Clothing; only in good condition and value exceeding $100.00
  • Jewelry
  • Textbooks/notebooks
  • Purses, wallets, cash, backpacks, keys (In Love Library, these items are kept in the Circulation Librarian's office rather than the general lost and found drawer and are turned over to campus police if not retrieved in 7-10 days.)
  • Items 1-5 will be sent to Campus Police when the assigned drawer is full.
  • Other items (mittens, scarves, hats, bottles, pictures, cards, non-text books, etc) will be discarded if no owner can be determined.
EXCEPTIONS
  • Credit/ATM cards will be destroyed when they are turned in to Lost and Found.
  • UNL ID cards will be sent to the union ID office.
  • Driver's licenses will be sent back to the address on the license.
  • Miscellaneous types of cards with no clear-cut identification (club/video membership cards, punch cards, etc) will be kept for a few weeks and then discarded.
