CHECKLIST FOR REQUESTING "LIBRARY USE ONLY" (LUO) CIRCULATION STATUS FOR ITEMS SHELVED IN THE STACKS
March 4, 2005

Philosophy: Items shelved in the stacks may receive a circulation status of LUO. However, the Libraries emphasis is upon allowing stacks items to circulate outside the library buildings.

Checklist: One or more of the following criteria must be met before permission will be granted to apply an LUO circulation status:

  1. The volume is a reference tool.
  2. The volume/s should be available at all times to users whenever the library is open.
  3. The availability and/or cost of replacing a damaged/lost volume is costly or next to impossible. (This criteria should be used in conjunction with #1 & 2 above)

Method for Requesting LUO Status: Send the title and call number to the Scholarly Communication Coordinator for consideration by CDC. Include a rationale that relates to the Checklist above.
