[Mission Statement]

MISSION: The Acquisitions Department of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Libraries is a service department within a service organization. The mission of the department is to acquire materials and services needed by the University community while making the best possible use of available resources.

We fulfill this mission by:

  • Maintaining effective communication, both internally and externally
  • Maintaining accurate records
  • Insuring that incoming and outgoing materials, including library mail, orders book and serial receipts, returns, etc., are processed efficiently and accurately
  • Using good accounting principles in the effective management of materials budgets
  • Supporting University and Library efforts to utilize electronic capabilities for the benefit of students, faculty, and staff
  • Providing accurate statistical reports and lists for use by the department, the Administration, the Collection Development Committee, and others within the Libraries
  • Providing and participating in cross-training in order to ensure work is completed efficiently in the Acquisitions Department as well as in other departments
  • Continuing to write and update departmental manuals, including the Acquisitions Manual for Public Service Librarians
  • Creating a working environment where diversity is appreciated and individuals' gifts and talents are fully utilized
