What we use and recommend:
ESRI GIS and Mapping SoftwareVirtual Campus Training: Free Courses
- ESRI offers free GIS courses (requires Java/JavaScript enabled) at this site.
- Users directly enroll to the courses, as described here.
University of Nebraska-Lincoln students, faculty and staff are eligible to take some of the ESRI Virtual Campus fee-based courses for free.
- To register, go to the ESRI Course Catalog and select the courses you are interested in. (Virtual campus courses are designated by a "w".)
Recommended for beginning users are the following: - Once you have selected the course you are interested in, email Alain Boucher at license@unl.edu and list the title of the course you want to enroll in. You will receive a course access code in your email. Follow instructions under #3 from the How to register page.
Keep in mind: If you are using a GIS workstation in the UNL Libraries to take your course, please follow the instructions for creating a folder on the shared drive labeled "map data drive". This folder is where you will download and save your exercise data, plus any maps you create.
Do not download any data to the 'c' drive!
If you have questions about using the GIS workstations in the UNL Libraries please contact Adonna Fleming, GIS Librarian, at dfleming2@unl.edu.
