In Love Library, current issues of newspapers are in the Current Periodicals Room (Love South, 1st Floor), arranged in alphabetical order. Backfiles of major newspapers are on microfilm in the Microforms Room (Love South, 2nd Floor), arranged by call number.

    This resource includes the full-text of more than 350 newspapers from the U.S. and around the world, many same day of publication, plus the most extensive archives available anywhere of Financial Times (dating back to 1982), The New York Times (dating back to 1980) and The Washington Post (dating back to 1977). Also covered is campus news, including the Chronicle of Higher Education and nearly 300 individual college/university papers. Also of significance are the Non-English language news sources, available in Spanish, French, German, Italian and Dutch.
  • Ethnic Newswatch

    Ethnic Newswatch is a comprehensive collection of newspaper, magazine, and journal articles of the ethnic, minority, and native press from 1985 to the present. The full text of 470,000 articles from 200+ publications is available electronically. English or Spanish search options available.
  • Bigchalk eLibrary.
    IRIS > Indexes by Title (A-Z) > E.
    This full-text database includes more than 230 full-text titles national and international titles including the Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, USA TODAY, Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post.
  • Academic Search Premiere.
    IRIS > Indexes by Title (A-Z) > A.
    The USA Today (1995 - present) and the Christian Science Monitor (1992 - present) are both available full-text in this database. The New York Times (1990-present) is indexed, but you must refer to the print or microfilm issues of the newspaper for the full articles.
  • Business Source Premiere.

    The Wall Street Journal (1994-present) is indexed by this database. You must still refer to the print or microfilm issues of the newspaper for the full articles.

  • Early English Newspapers
    LOVE Mfilm S638
    Early English Newspapers is a microfilm collection of rare English newspapers printed from 1603 to 1818. Individual titles are listed in Early English Newspapers: Bibliography and Guide to the Microfilm Collection (LOVE Ref PN5114 C69 1983c). The Libraries own some, but not all of the reels.
  • Newspapers in Microform in Love Library
    LOVE Ref Z6945 U56 1991
    Newspaper in Microform lists additional newspapers in microform. Many of the titles listed are part of specialized collections, including the Underground Newspaper Collection, Early American Newspapers , and Contemporary Newspapers of the North American Indian.
  • Editorials on File
    LOVE Ref D847 E3
    Editorials on File reprints editorials and editorial cartoons published in major U.S. newspapers from 1970 to 1998.

OTHER SOURCES OF NEWSPAPERS

  • Nebraska State Historical Society Library
    15th and R Streets
    The Historical Society Library owns microfilm backfiles of the Lincoln Journal, the Lincoln Star and the Omaha World Herald , as well as other Nebraska newspapers. An index of local and state news topics from 1950 to 1980 is also available.
  • Bennett Martin Public Library
    14th and N Streets
    The Public Library has an excellent collection of U.S. and Nebraska newspapers, including backfiles of the Lincoln Journal Star from 1868 to the present. A print index covering the Journal Star from 1979 to the present is also available, and the full-text of local and regional news articles from 1997 to the present is available under the Databases link on the City Library's web page. In order to access this database from outside of a Lincoln City Libraries facility, you must must have a public library card. Otherwise you will need to use the database at one of the city libraries.
  • Lincoln Journal Star Library
    926 P Street
    The library has an extensive clipping file (1954 - 1996) of local, state and biographical news items from Lincoln newspapers, as well as an electronic archive (1996 - present). The library is also open to the public from 2:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays. Additional information can be found on the Library's website.
  • Nebraska Newspaper Project
    The University Libraries and the Historical Society have jointly worked on this project to identify, microfilm and catalog all Nebraska newspapers. The project has been funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities. For more information, visit the Nebraska Newspaper Project page.
